Edward R. George
MD, FACP
Dr. Ed George is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Eastern Virginia Medical School, and a board certified Hematologist/Oncologist with Virgin ia Oncology Associates, based in Norfolk, Virginia. Dr. George graduated from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. He served as a Clinical Associate atthe National Institutes of Health and completed a Fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. Dr. George is the former Chairman of the National Policy Board of US Oncology, and the former President of Cancer Centers of Virginia. He currently serves on several local Boards, including the Cancer Care Foundation of Tidewater, the Sentara Health Foundation, Cycle for Survival, the TocquevilleCabinet Board, and the Towne Bank Board. Dr. George also conducts a busy schedule of traveling medical lectures nationwide. He serves on the Humana National Pharmacy and Therapeutics Board.
Dr. George fulfilled a lifelong desire to fly when he obtained his pilot’s license in 2004. He has enjoyed flying Cirrus aircraft, and currently flies a twin turbonormalized Cirrus SE-22 . He became a proud member of the Quiet Birdmen aviator club several years ago. He and his soulmate, Karen, enjoy traveling in the Cirrus whenever the opportunity presents itself. Above all, Dr. George is blessed with Karen, and three wonderful daughters, two sons -in-law, and five beautiful grandchildren, who are his most cherished interests. He resides primarily in Virginia Beach, and hassince 1978.
