Join us Saturday, June 8th, from 10 am to 3 pm, as we commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings along the Normandy coast during World War II. Bring the whole family and enjoy an exciting day of presentations and activities planned by our education team – and a Warbird flight demonstration! Best of all, it’s all included in your Museum Admission!
Schedule:
10:30 am – 10:50 am | Paratroopers Pack Presentation
11:00 am – 11:45 am | Presentation on the 101st Airborne Division
12:00 – 12:45 pm | Presentation on the 82nd Airborne Division
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm | Summer of Flight Warbird Demonstration
2:30 pm – 2:50 pm | Paratroopers Pack Presentation
Activities:
- Paratroopers Pack Presentation
- Learn how a D-Day Paratrooper packed their kit.
- Build your own Paratrooper
- Build your parachute and paratrooper – and see if you can land them in the drop zone!
- Friend or Foe?
- Can you identify Allied and Axis aircraft in the heat of the battle?
- Code Talkers Activity
- Learn about the American Indians who used their native language to send coded messages in battle.
- Flash and Thunder Obstacle Course
- “Bombs” on the ground – kids are blind-folded and try to get through the maze using ‘flash & thunder’ and tin crickets.
- Invasion Stripe Activity
- Kids will color invasion stripes on wooden gliders.
- Sign talking about Invasion stripes & “’G’ for Guts.”
- Glider will be parked on the ramp for kids to see invasion stripes.
- Modeler Club
- Will display models of planes and ships that were involved in D-Day.
