Event Series Event Series (See All)

Saturdays at 1pm from May to October, the Military Aviation Museum will be showcasing historical aircraft and commemorating important wartime events through narrated flying demonstrations.

Join us for our Summer of Flight program on Saturday, May 18 at 1:00pm, where we will
demonstrate our North American P-64 replica. In the years leading up to American
involvement in World War II, nations all around the world were scrambling to reequip
their air forces with new fighters. To meet the need and turn a profit, several American
manufacturers produced basic, but modern fighters with metal skins, enclosed cockpits,
and retractable gear as comparatively inexpensive export fighters.
North American produced and delivered seven such export fighters for the Peruvian Air
Force designated the NA-50 and produced six for the Royal Thai Air Force with the
designation NA-68. Before the NA-68s were delivered to Thailand, the Japanese
attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The NA-68s were dispersed to training
bases in the continental U.S. with the new designation P-64 and used as utility aircraft.
Only one original NA-50 and one P-64 are left today, with about half a dozen modified
North American AT-6/SNJs flying today as replicas. The museum’s P-64 replica is a
modified and converted 1943 North American SNJ-4 Texan. Join us to see this unique
WWII replica take to the skies over Pungo.

Experience the rumble from the engine up close as you hear from the pilots about what it is like to fly these incredible aircraft, learn about the battles they participated in, and about the men and women who built, flew and maintained them during the war!

Summer of Flight is included in your general museum admission and free for museum members. Each event starts at 1:00 pm unless otherwise noted.

Flights, Aircraft and Topics subject to change. Due to inclement weather, dates may be rescheduled to a later date or canceled. All flights are weather and maintenance permitting.
